There are lots of folks out there talking about making money online.
I mean– I can’t even get through my Facebook news feed these days without seeing an advertisement of some rando with a big cheesy smile talking about their life changing webinar… and LOTS of people running around calling themselves gurus and influencers.
Even worse and more confusing, there are lots of blogging “experts” that only make money blogging about making money blogging.
This post contains affiliate links which means I will be financially compensated if you purchase the tools I use at no extra cost to you.
I know that it’s pretty strange having my friends, families, and loved ones knowing how much money I make, but that’s the trade off I choose for the transparency this provides.
Also, I pay attention to the other big bloggers that do income reports… And frankly, they inspire me so much.
Sometimes just knowing that life-changing income is completely possible is all the mind needs to move forward past the pain of starting out on your own crazy-amazing journey.
It gives me the fire to do better and to push harder. That extra nudge to put in those extra 2 hours at the end of a long day. I think that stuff really matters.
I KNOW it is tough, and can be demotivating. One thing that always keeps me get energized is seeing the results, both good AND bad, of other people I follow and respect.
So What Can You Expect From These Reports?
The unapologetic truth. I will dive deep into my numbers – both the $$$ as well as how my blog is doing with engagement, visitors, etc.
In any business, you need to stop every now and then and gauge your progress.
These pauses are so important. It lets you zoom out and look at the big picture. If you keep your head down and just run full speed ahead, you’ll never know if you’re still on course or if you’ve veered off and are heading towards a cliff.
As a blogger, I’ve made approximately three zillion mistakes in these 3 whole months of my blogging journey (and sure to make about a zillion more), I’ve learned tons of lessons from them, and worked my little tail feathers off the whole time.
I’ve found plenty of things that didn’t work, and I’ve also discovered some strategies that are lit-rally the bomb. Today, I’m sharing some of the ways that I’m going to grow my blog, from $0 to $5K per month.
I hope this inspires you through you blogging journey! I mean I’m literally starting from Ground Zero $ here! 🙂
**Oh hey! If you are interested in starting a successful blog for yourself, I made an awesome-sauce tutorial on how to start a profitable blog for only $4. In addition to being a great deal, you can also get a $.99 website domain if you purchase through my GoDaddy link.
So without further ado, let’s get into it!
My big fat hairy audacious GOALS for the next 6 months are to:
While making money from this blog is important to me, I also want to build something I can be proud of and something that helps others.
- Consistently publish content– that are at least 1000+ words with more links to my own content, other blogs content and affiliate links.
- Start my own Work at Home mom forum/community
- Reach 5k monthly page views
- More active on Social Media and gain followers
- More effort towards my SEO
CONSISTENTLY PUBLISH CONTENT
My stretch goal is to publish 2-3 posts per week.
I write on a daily basis, so it wouldn’t be difficult for me to publish posts that often. But I plan to spend quality time marketing each post to get certain results.
I also have decided to try batching my blog posts. What is Batching you ask? Well lemme tell ya!
Batching is a productivity hack that helps you use your time more efficiently by focusing on similar tasks in one “batch” of time, instead of trying to do seven different tasks in the same time period. Batching cuts down on distractions and multitasking and forces you to focus on what’s in front of you.
In other words, it’s faster to spend an hour creating a month’s worth of blog graphics than it is to create each of those images one at a time as you need them throughout the month.
I really need to focus on this! I have a huge ol’ problem with allowing my brain to go in 10,000 different directions and ideas– (although all are great directions and ideas) this means that I never get anything done.
START MY OWN COMMUNITY/FORUM
I’ve been planning to create a community around my blog for awhile. I knew there would be many changes ahead for this blog as I battled with myself to determine what exactly I’d focus on. So I have to remain very patient during this long phase.
My ideal community will be a Work at Home Mom forum/community I am in the planning stages of. A place where moms can get together and share there work from home money-making ideas & experiences.
Blog Posts: Get 200 social shares within a month of publishing each post.
Twitter: Get 250 followers (currently at 199+). I used to never really understand the point of Twitter. Like, I really, really didn’t get it. When I first started my blog, I would read articles that told me that if I wanted to grow my readership, I needed to use Twitter. That’s nice, I thought, but how in the hell do I use it effectively?
I’m working on finding others to follow (in my niche) and attracting my ideal audience. Start by following your favorite bloggers (their Twitter username should be on their blog). If they tweet something you like, respond! I plan to try and follow at least 20-50 other blogs in my niche per day.
Facebook: Get 50 likes (currently 6+). Facebook is a very powerful platform and I plan to continue using it despite how difficult it can be to get seen organically.
Pinterest: Get 100 followers (currently 6+). I’ve been on Pinterest for awhile, but never really used it. I now use Tailwind (which I have fallen in love with) to schedule 50-60 pins per day and I manually pin things on some days when I have free time.
I plan to join some niche specific group boards to increase my blog’s reach and followers (at least 50 group boards).
SCHEDULE MY SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS
I just recently got into scheduling my posts on social media. I AM IN LOVE! It saves so much precious writing time. The one’s I’m currently using and in love with are:
- Tailwind —First 100 pins free with my link
- Buffer —Free for Twitter/Facebook (Pinterest is 7 day free trial)
- Hootsuite —Free for 3 social profiles and you can add your Tailwind account and schedule your pins.
- TweetDeck —Free
I plan to schedule my posts so that they are sent through my social media outlets at varying times, several times a day. Why? Because I know my readers are all very different. Perhaps you live in different time zones or work at night as opposed to in the morning. I completely get that!
COMMENT ON OTHER BLOGS
You should definitely be doing this as well. Include my blog’s URL and write more than a sentence. I have already gotten traffic from blogs I have commented on. I would like to comment on at least 30 blogs in my niche per week.
JOIN LINKUPS AND LEAVE COMMENTS ON THE OTHER LINKED UP BLOGS
I just recently started posting on blog Link Parties and have gotten a jump in traffic afterwards. And I’m thinking of starting my own link party for Side Hustles and Saving Money. Whatta ya think?
Here are a couple of link parties that I am frequenting:

PUT MORE EFFORT INTO MY SEO
If you’re not properly SEO-ing the crap out of your posts, you’re missing out on tons of potential readers… I realize this and am in the process of fixing it. The steps I’m taking include:
- Naming my photos something that pertains to your post instead of using a name like “J2596.JPG.”
- Add a keyword to my post and try using it in the post’s title, content, meta description, etc.
- Use relevant tags, and add a meta description.
REACH 5K MONTHLY PAGE VIEWS
I’ve still got a long way to go-– But I’m so stinkin proud every time I get a chance to see that I am getting traffic to my posts, likes/shares on social media and my first comment and newsletter/browser notification subscriber.
I use Google Analytics to track my traffic sources and whatnot, and my #1 referral source so far has been Twitter. I’d like to eventually have mostly organic traffic, but I’m not there yet. This month I’m focusing on growing my overall page views and backlinks to my website (which should also improve my SEO – it’s a twofer!).
Check it: this month I made my FIRST bit of income through this blog – a whopping $9.86 in affiliate income! It’s not much, but it sure was enough to snap me out of my funk and say, “Yo, get back in the game gurl – you got this!”
Even though it’s not a lot, it’s given me a renewed sense of confidence in what I’m doing. Many people never make a cent with their blog, but I was able to start making [a wee bit of] money. high five
This is going to help me stay focused on the growth of my blog because you don’t need a ton of traffic, or a large social media following, to generate an income.
I feel that it’s very important to share these “low” moments of my journey, and my plan to grow, because these things are often left undocumented after bloggers reach a certain status.
Creating a plan and setting goals can really help you understand your purpose for blogging. When you understand your purpose, you can go far!
