When you’re a small business with a dozen or fewer employees, it’s easy to know everyone’s name, to build silly traditions and even micromanage to some extent without disrupting the flow of your company. Office traditions might sound like a silly gimmick, but it’s actually incredibly important to focus on your reputation and productivity through creating a comfortable working environment for your staff. If you neglect this, then there’s a good chance that your business will grow to become a soulless machine that goes through hundreds of employees. Yes, this is unavoidable when you have literally hundreds of thousands of employees, but until you reach that point (if you even want to) it’s best to never forget your workplace values and culture.
- Don’t neglect your scalability
Scalability is also an issue when it comes to growing your business. Your office might be good enough to handle a dozen people, but as you scale up your operations you won’t be able to use the same hardware or solutions. A good example of this is with the internet. A simple business router is usually enough to provide a strong WiFi signal to a moderately sized office. However, if you move into a larger office with several dozen employees, a single router or even two won’t cut it. Many people say that x company has changed or y business upgraded and started forgetting about their audience, and these are usually legitimate concerns that many businesses could learn from.
